Hotels all over the world have been providing massages, pedicures and facials for a long time, but in recent years spa 'treatment menus' and specialist centres have gained in popularity. Of course Asia is a great place to head for authentic therapies of all kinds and Thailand is a great favourite with many villa resorts along the coast and on the islands having fabulous spas, steam baths and plunge pools. Treatments used here include natural products such as mango body butter scrubs, tamarind skin exfoliation and clay bound Thai fresh fruits. Bali has superb boutique hotels with spas and a range of sublime treatments.

Auyrvedic spas and Asian spa retreats
Wellbeing breaks can incorporate any number of practices such as yoga, Ayurveda spas, or Hammans. India is the ultimate in ayurvedic destinations, being the home of the first such retreat which combined mediation, yoga and a balanced vegetarian diet. In Kerala they have a 'five sided' Ayurveda treatment using herbs, milk, medicated oils, massage and special diets to balance the body. There are several homestays in Kerala which can include holistic treatments, massage and therapies as well as the hotels. Travel to China and experience a special wellness cruise on the luxury Sanctuary Explorer on the Yangtze River with an indulgent spa on board, thai-chi sessions and more.
Float in the Dead Sea in Israel or Jordan have a 'salt bath' and enjoy the thermal spas of many volcanic destinations such as Iceland. For tropical pampering destinations try any of the Indian Ocean Islands or the Caribbean, try the famous BodyHoliday resort in St Lucia for all inclusive adults only body rejuvenation programmes. Many hotels in Mauritius or the Maldives have world class spas with a range of special relaxing treatments.

Closer to home, Cyprus and Greece have some great spa holidays. Luxury hotels in Cyprus feature the thalassotherapy treatments and there is a boutique hotel on Santorini island in Greece which has treatments focusing on cellulite and slimming, pre and post natal care, detoxifying and rejuvenating.
If you would like to do yoga or pilates on your holiday, there are a growing number of hotels which have yoga studios or 'decks' some offer classes on the beach! Even in some cites there are options for yoga and pilates now (such as Marrakech). In Malawi the gorgeous getaway Mumbo Island now has a large yoga deck in the forest. Campi Ya Kanzi in Kenya's 'green hills of Africa' is the setting for yoga retreats.
