The capital city of Bandar Seri Begawan is small and clean but remember this is a 'dry' country - so if it's nightlife you want, you won't find it here! Visit the attractive mosques including Masjid Jame the largest in the country with glittering gold domes and minaret towers. The Royal Reglaia Museum explains the history of these buildings and the culture of Brunei's Sultan. There are markets and shopping malls, one of the best is the Gadong night market, asail your senses with the intoxicating smells and colours. The country's most famous hotel is the Empire Hotel and Country Club, half an hour from the capital with a cinema, sports facilities and several pools. In Bandar Seri Begawan there is a stilted water village at Kampung Ayer, where you can stay in local B&B's, wander wooden walkways and watch the speedboats ferry people and goods around the waterways.

Just half an hour from the capital upstream by boat takes you into the rainforests where you can see proboscis monkeys, crocodiles and beautiful bird life. If you want to explore Brunei's natural history in more detail head deeper into the forest to Ulu Temburong National Park, transferring by long boat on the river rapids. There is a canopy walkway for those with a head for heights! In the early morning take in the view of the steaming forest from these aerial viewpoints and listen to the hooting of the gibbons across the treetops. You can also take a guided night walk to experience the nocturnal creatures and marvel at the fireflies. In the daytime take treks to waterfalls and try your hand at tubing or kayaking.
The scuba diving in Bunei is superb and you can explore an array of reefs and wrecks where large fish and colourful coral have thankfully been hardly touched by commercial diving.
Combine a holiday to Brunei with other parts of Borneo or twin it with other regions of South East Asia, maybe Indonesia or Malaysia. Ask me for a tailor made quote for a trip to this amazing tiny piece of Asia!
