The below itinerary starts and ends in Tromso. Contact me for a quote to include flights and transfers.

  • Day 1: Your Arctic Norway Northern Lights expedition begins in historic Tromsø, 250 miles north of the Polar Circle. Board your ship and prepare for adventure!
  • Day 2: Explore Lyngen Fjord and Alps. enjoy landings, snowshoe walks, hikes and kayaking here if conditions allow. After an exciting day of adventures, in the evening gather around a bonfire on the beach to enjoy drinks and delicious Norwegian foods.
  • Day 3: Arrive into Senja, Norway’s second-largest island with sandy beaches, jagged mountains, deep forests and picturesque fishing villages. Visit a local community to experience the famously warm Scandinavian hospitality and learn about the Sámi culture
  • Day 4: Continue towards the Lofoten Islands, with a day of flexible expedition sailing, with your team seeking out the ideal places for landings and adventures. There should hopefully be opportunities for kayaking excursions and small boat explorations around the remote islands.
  • Day 5: A snow-capped wonderland of narrow fjords and charming fishing villages hidden between towering mountains. The plan is to land close to Svolvær, and anchor overnight, to enjoy a relaxing day of exploration in this small but special town. Take a fishing trip from here, relax in a traditional Nordic sauna before taking a thrilling polar plunge, or simply enjoy the cosy restaurants and bars of this unique settlement.
  • Day 6: Enter the magical snow-capped area of Vesterålen following an unforgettable sail through the narrow Trollfjord and into the Raftsund strait, surrounded by towering cliffs on all sides that appear so close you will feel like you could almost touch them. Vesterålen is an ideal area for expedition activities, and we will hope to be able to enjoy multiple activities here including kayaking, small boat cruising and snowshoe hiking across the icy landscapes. Another memorable treat awaits this evening as we are granted exclusive access to the fantastic Hurtigruten Museum where you can enjoy a walk around followed by dinner served in this special heritage setting.
  • Day 7: The last day at sea will be spent sheltered in the deep fjords sailing back towards Tromsø, enjoying some more memorable adventures along the way. You will also want to spend some time on deck soaking up the incredible vistas of the winter sun illuminating the landscapes and mountains and this part of the journey also offers up the best chances of spotting whales in the icy waters below.
  • Day 8: Your Norway Northern Lights Expedition Cruise concludes back in Tromsø where it will sadly be time to disembark to make your way homewards or onwards.

This is just one example of an Arctic expedition cruise. Multiple post-cruise programmes are available offering further exploration of this area. We can also offer a range of Antarctic cruises, Northern Lights holidays and include flights and transfers. Contact me for a bespoke quotation.

“Julie, many, many thanks for the trip you organised for us to Norway for my wife’s surprise birthday present. We had wanted to try cross-country skiing for years & loved it. On our very last night when we were dog-sledding the clouds cleared and we were treated to the Northern Lights displays we had waited for!”
