Overview & Highlights
Saint Lucia is one of the Caribbean’s most lush and tropical islands. A year round destination with average temperatures about 30c. The landscape is full of lush, thick rainforests and beaches surrounded by a backdrop of plant covered mountains.
The natural history of Saint Lucia covers thousands of plant and insect species, tropical butterflies, reptiles, amphibians, amazing birdlife and some of the best marine life of the Caribbean, offering incredible diving and snorkelling sites. At sea, Sperm & Humpback Whales and dolphins, including the acrobatic Spinner Dolphin, can be seen.
In the forests, amongst orchids, ferns & bromeliads & orchids search for St Lucia Parrot, St Lucia Oriole & St Lucia Blackfinch. Green Iguanas can grow to large sizes and you may see the small Agouti (a small mammal belonging to the rodent family) on the forest floors.
From volcanic origins the World Heritage recognised Gros and Petit Pitons dominate the dramatic landscape of the southern part of the islands. Waterfalls, hot springs and sulphur mud baths can all be found here. Tropical forests surround the Cacao plantations, just one of the plentiful island resources, take a chocolate tour or try and make your own!
The local cuisine incorporates French influences with food and drink festivals, street parties and plenty of local culture. Many hotels have organic farms and feature some amazing dining options.

“The lush, tropical mountains of St Lucia are an incredible destination for the naturalist – the two hotels featured here were my favourites on the island and perfect to surround yourself with nature, switch off and unwind…”
The incredible birdlife of St Lucia includes four species endemic to the island, plus 14 Lesser Antillean endemics. On the tiny Maria Islands, Sooty Terns, Brown Noddy, frigatebirds & tropicbirds breed here and in the warm waters you can encounter wonderful Caribbean fish species & Hawksbill Turtles. Hummingbirds and Sunbirds frequent the tropical gardens and many hotels put out nectar feeders around the hotel rooms and grounds.

A few impressions…

“Jules put a lot of time into arranging our holiday to St Lucia. The resort was wonderful. The travel arrangements were excellent; illustrated in one instance where we were met as we disembarked the aircraft and were then escorted through passport control and baggage reclaim avoiding all queues.
