Ljubljana & Lake Bled
This twin centre tailor-made holiday allows you to explore beautiful Lake Bled and cultural Ljubljana at your own pace. Make the short journey between the two by private car transfer and enjoy plenty of free time to explore the highlights of Slovenia at leisure.
Renowned for its stunning natural beauty, hot springs and superb climate, Bled is located on the edge of a former volcanic lake in the shadow of a wonderful medieval castle. Situated high up on the bluff, the fairytale castle houses a museum detailing the area’s history and provides unparalleled views of the lake and surrounding mountains.
In the western part of the lake lies Bled Island, site of a Christian church since the 9th century. Crowning the island is the striking baroque style Church of the Assumption, a popular location for weddings where it is considered good luck for the groom to carry his bride up the 99 steps before ringing the bell and making a wish!

Ljubljana takes the architectural influences of some of Europe’s most beautiful capitals and brings them all together in one easily explorable city. The imposing castle, first fortified by the Celts and the Illyrians, dominates the skyline while the Art Nouveau buildings on the left bank are evidence of the city’s regeneration following the devastating earthquake of 1895.
Visit the City Market – one of Plecnik’s iconic architectural legacies from the inter-war years – for a taste of local life, or book tickets to a world-class ballet or opera performance at the SNG.
The journey between Ljubljana and Bled takes just 45 minutes, leaving plenty of free time to enjoy city sightseeing and scenic lakeside walks.

- Day 1: Fly to Slovenia’s capital and on arrival take a private transfer to Lake Bled for three nights (approx 30 min drive) at the foot of the Julian Alps.
- Days 2-3: Explore the picturesque lakeside resort of Bled at your own pace. Lake Bled is truly the jewel of Slovenia with its iconic church-topped island in the middle of the lake. There are many easy trails which follow the edge of the lake, or for the more energetic perhaps consider the trek to Bled Castle for stunning views. Take a traditional pletna boat across to Bled Island to explore the 17th century church and on warm summer evenings eat out at one of the many cosmopolitan town centre restaurants.
- Day 4: Transfer to Ljubljana by private car (approx 40 min drive) and check in to the hotel for three nights.
- Days 5-6: Explore Slovenia’s small yet culturally packed capital city, coveted over the centuries by the Celts, Illyrians, Romans and Slavs. Walk or take the funicular up to the castle for dramatic panoramic views across to the Julian Alps and imposing Mount Triglav.
- Day 7: Transfer to the airport for your flight back to the UK.
