Visit Giza’s pyramids before taking a flight to the ancient town of Aswan, where Agatha Christie wrote her novel Death on the Nile. Here you will board one of the country’s premier luxury cruise vessels, the Sanctuary Nile Adventurer, for a four-night, five-star river cruise to Luxor.

Throughout the journey, you will explore ancient sites with an expert Egyptologist, who will regale you with tales of pharaohs, kings and a pantheon of exotic gods.

Itinerary is subject to change due to opening hours of some historic sites. The cruise will operate using the Sanctuary Sun Boat IV or the Sanctuary Nile Adventurer.

  • Day 1: Arrive Cairo.
  • Day 2: Visit the pyramids of Giza and enjoy evening welcome meal. elit.
  • Day 3: Fly to Aswan to begin your 4-night Nile cruise aboard the Sanctuary Nile Adventurer, ride a traditional felucca sailboat around Elephantine Island, Lord Kitchener’s Botanical Gardens and the Agha Khan Mausoleum (weather permitting).
  • Day 4: Motorboat ride to see the Philae Temple on Agilkia Island. Then visit quarries and the Unfinished Obelisk. Back aboard, partake in an Egyptian cookery lesson, then visit the Temple of Kom Ombo – dedicated to the crocodile god, Sobek.
  • Day 5: This morning, explore the extraordinary Temple of Horus. Return to your boat in time for lunch and continue cruising to Esna. This afternoon, your Egyptologist guides you round the Graeco-Roman Temple of Khnum in Esna.
  • Day 6: Explore the imposing Temple of Luxor alongside your expert Egyptologist. Continue to the Temple of Karnak and the Valley of the Kings. You also have the chance to visit at least one tomb in the Valley of the Queens and the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut.
  • Day 7: Fly to Cairo this morning. After lunch at leisure, visit the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, the oldest archaeological museum in the Middle East and home to a wide variety of pharaonic antiquities.
  • Day 8: Transfer to Cairo airport and fly home (or extend your journey)
