Why Morocco is perfect for families
Being just a 3 hour flight across the Mediterranean, Morocco is a wonderful destination for families. The sights and sounds and the friendly people will be a delight to children of all ages.
The souqs in Marrakesh are fascinating, wander the alleyways and markets with your local guide. We use a range of family friendly accommodation some with exotic gardens and pools, some traditional desert camps, alternatively there are coastal guest houses.
The most comfortable time to travel would be April – May or September – October, average temperatures range from 15 – 29C. (Travel is possible in summer months, but temperatures average 25 – 40C).
Away from the bustle of Marrakech, the Agafay Stone Desert and the Atlas Mountains are only an hour or so from the city. You can spend a night under the stars, for an adventure with a stunning backdrop.
The last stop on this Morocco family holiday is the relaxing coastal haven of Taghazout. With a long stretch of beach ideal for running around on or a camel ride if the kids want the whole Moroccan experience, it’s the perfect place to end your adventure!

Below is just one suggested itinerary for a 9 day family holiday to Morocco. This is just a starting point, let’s have a discussion about your family requirements and create the perfect bespoke holiday.
- Day 1: Fly to Marrakech where your smiling driver will transfer you to your hotel in the Palmeraie. Lined by palm groves with panoramic views of the Atlas Mountains, this is a perfect retreat for some much-needed family R&R, away from the chaos of the medina. Relax with a mint tea, explore the gardens, or unwind by the pool. Marrakech 4 nights
- Day 2: Start your day with a vintage sidecar tour of the forgotten and unforgettable sights of Marrakesh with a local guide, who will take you through the ancient medina’s streets, historic landmarks, and tucked-away treasures. Spend your afternoon at your own leisure, we recommend a visit to Jardin Majorelle, perfect for both adults and children.
- Day 3: Enjoy a day by the pool in your peaceful Palmeraie retreat today. Early evening, you’ll head into the medina again for a guided food tasting tour around the busy markets, ending up in the famous Jemaa el-Fna square.
- Day 4: A day trip up into the beautiful landscapes of the Atlas Mountains. Spend the day fully immersed in the authentic, local culture of rural Morocco, meeting amazing local people along the way. You could choose to take a leisurely hike through the surrounding landscapes, sit down to share a delicious traditional lunch at an Indigenous Berber family house, explore the quirky Amina Gardens nearby, or even put your cooking skills to the test at a hands-on Berber cooking class.
- Day 5: Head out of Marrakesh today and head to Agafay Stone Desert to spend a night under the stars – a truly Moroccan experience! You’ll enjoy a camel ride through the otherworldly landscape this afternoon before settling down for the night with a warm traditional Berber meal, for a magical highlight to any Morocco holiday.
- Day 6: After your night in the desert, a private transfer takes you to the sleepy surfer town of Taghazout Bay, perched on the Atlantic Coast. Stay for 3 nights, soaking up the beauty of coastal Morocco. Taghazout Bay is known for its diverse waves, perfect for first-time surfers and those more confident in catching waves. Surf lessons or yoga classes can be easily arranged through your hotel.
- Day 7: At leisure
- Day 8: On your final day in Morocco, we recommend heading to Agadir to explore Souk El Had, Africa’s largest urban market. With an overwhelming choice of exotic spices, textiles, ceramics, and handcrafted goods, it’s perfect for picking up a one-of-a-kind souvenir before you head home tomorrow.
- Day 9: Your Morocco family holiday comes to an end today when you fly home from Agadir Airport.
This is just one example of a tailor made holiday to Morocco. For families with teens (or adults!) why not include the beautiful and fortified village of Ait Ben Haddou in the Oasis region for a two-night stay. Full of the history and culture this UNESCO World Heritage site is full of arts and crafts. Explore local markets filled with handmade crafts, perfect for picking up a unique keepsake. In the evening, visit the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a must-see for Game of Thrones fans, and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding desert landscape as the sun sets.
