Laurie Schlussel – Senegal (March 2014)

While all of our hotels were beyond wonderful, Senegal is quite culturally different from ours (USA). Many roads are still sand and unpaved- though a good part of the trip to the delta was on the highway- at least one hour was a short cut through quite a barren area, little villages along the way were amazing to see – the hustle and bustle in each village is wonderful. Dakar is a busy city and we thoroughly enjoyed our tours. Origin Africa delivered as promised!!  Our journeys to each location took four hours-but worth it.

Hotel Delta Niominka was gorgeous and the room was great, the food and service wonderful and The Keur saloum was also gorgeous with the most tremendous room – here the food was mediocre at best. Tama lodge was heaven and a good place to end our trip. The owner is a delight as well as the staff. All the hotels had great air con and hot water in showers and the beds were very comfy.

You do need to speak French or have an excellent guide translating in Senegal, my daughter did the translating for us! Regarding currency, the hotels often don’t have any small change and locals do not want Euros or Dollars, so change some money into CFA at the hotels then try and get small change at gas stations so you have small money for tips!

All in all, thank you for your help arranging this holiday for us – I will definitely contact you again for another overseas vacation.
