With a 15 month head start, Travel With Jules organised a multi-generational family group of 15 people to return to Kenya, where we used to live for my mother’s 80th birthday celebration (Jill). Expectations were high and Jules delivered! Loldia House and Medina Palms were perfect places to relax & unwind.
Jill O’Rorke : We had a wonderful family holiday in Kenya with Beach, Safari at Samburu and finally a relaxing few days at the end 2 weeks in all. Everything went to plan and was a Holiday of a lifetime for the family – 15 of us of varying ages. I recommend Travel With Jules wholeheartedly
The idea was to first relax at the coast, near to where we knew in Watamu, so we could visit friends over Christmas. Jules’ suggestion of Medina Palms worked well, with high end accommodation, peace and tranquility on site and good quality food. Half board suited us well.
We then flew to Samburu, an area my mother knew, but to a camp we did not know. It was incredible luxury in the bush and lived up to its name ‘Elephant Bedroom Camp’ as we saw elephants from our tents every lunchtime when we were in camp. Viewing elephants from your private hot tub is quite an experience!
The food was incredible and the staff very attentive. A tented spa was also well used by our group. Dancing with the Samburu staff in their local costumes on New Year’s Eve was unexpected fun and we returned the favour with the hokey kokey, the macarana and other such hits!
We saw all the wildlife we hoped for (except lion) and including the ‘special five’ seen only in Samburu. Transfers by private charter plane are definitely the way to travel.
We finished up relaxing on the north shore of Lake Naivasha in Loldia House, which we are familiar with from previous visits. Here we saw mating giraffe followed by sun downers high above the lake, plus an early morning boat trip where the boatman called and we fed fish to a nearby Fish Eagle. Loldia House is familiar to us and feels so much like home away from home. The new swimming pool has amazing views over Lake Naivasha and yet is tucked up out of the way from the original landscaped garden – brilliant. It also has a massage therapist.
We then drove to back to Nairobi after 7 of us rode horses on the other side of the lake!
The booking process went well – from sharing our ideas – then coming up with suggestions for us to consider. This included a safari location we didn’t know about (Elephant Bedroom Camp) & asking for sole use of Loldia House and negotiating house drinks inclusive. We were relieved to find out that 10 new flights were secured for us to Malindi on Christmas week, after the previously booked airline was grounded. A big plus to have Travel With Jules sort this out for us!
