Jenny & David – India (October 2019)

Yet again, thank you, Jules, and your inestimable cohort, Nikhil, for a fascinating, rewarding, tiring trip round this amazing country (Our fourth holiday to India with you!)

We had forgotten that the flight to Shimla was not for the faint hearted, which was just as well when we saw the landing strip, but the journey was well worth the nerves and Wildflower Hall was superb, the staff couldn’t do enough for us – beautiful setting in the foothills of the Himalayas and excellent service.

The Golden Temple in Amritsar was all we had hoped, both during the day seeing all the food preparation, and at night for the ceremony of putting the sacred book to bed. Stunning…

The trip to the Pakistan border was highly memorable (and reminded us of Michael Palin’s visit to this iconic location many years ago!).

Air India managed to be delayed on three out of four flights but finally took us to Udaipur and the unexpected size of the lakes and the City Palace, which is huge!

Loved the Club rooms, two evenings we didn’t even have dinner but took advantage of the offerings in the Club lounges. Well worth the extra. The unexpected final hotel was interesting, the rooms are loft-like but perfectly comfortable. The main restaurant was really good, good choice and the breakfast was great, could eat their chocolate muffins on a regular basis, though they wouldn’t do my ever expanding waistline much good!

Obviously the best part of the trip was meeting Nikhil and his family! What a pleasure and I will remember his little son’s hug for a long time 🙂  Not to mention, six birthday cakes, a bottle of champagne and a Thali meal!

Great guides, drivers and hotels, all co-ordinated to perfection, what more could one wish for on an adventure? Thank you again.

Jenny and David flew via Dubai having an overnight stop there this is the view from the Burj Khalifa!
