Gaedry & DeVilliers – India (Feb 2020)

Travels around Northern India including the Palace Hotels.

Thank you and the team in India for putting our tailor made holiday together.  Everything was so well planned. We were met at the airline gate on arrival into Delhi and everything was plain sailing – no worries or cares as we were whisked through the airport. I was expecting a bustling, busy airport but we had no problem finding as we were guided through customs then straight to our driver. At every hotel, check in was easy. We were met with a birthday cake at every hotel which was very kind and Imperial Hotel upgraded us!

Our driver was lovely and all tour guides were very good. In Udaipur it probably isn’t necessary to have a guide on the boat ride – which basically takes you to the other island then back. Easier to do that trip directly from the Lake Palace Hotel with their boat otherwise you have to go back to shore then catch another boat at another mooring which is a bit of a round about way. We also cancelled our excursion to Delwara as we had a long trip from Jodhpur to Udaipur the day before and it enabled us to have a little bit of free time after the palace tour before we set off again on boat ride.

Sometimes I am not sure the representative is necessary at check in but I am sure there is a reason – we just felt bad for the person who had to sit and wait for us just to check in at each hotel. The rep was a NECESSITY to get us onto the train Delhi though. We wouldn’t have managed without him!

The observatory in Jaipur in was interesting but guide spent too long explaining every apparatus in detail – could spend shorter time there. He was very knowledgeable but went into a lot of detail in the palace too – sometimes that prevents you from seeing what you are actually interested in.

I can’t say anything was not worth seeing – I thought every palace was different and mind blowing but my husband really craved some down time – so not an early morning and sightseeing all day, every day. We didn’t have any free time to read or go to pool, but we packed a lot in to a relatively short time frame. Could maybe spend a day longer in each place to enjoy if one has the time!

Everything was hilarious and bright and fun. We loved our reception at Umaid Bhawan Palace with trumpets drums and strewn petals and marigold necklaces!

The cooking course in Jaipur was great – the family was fantastic and we had fun. The couple were fasting so couldn’t eat with us or have a glass of wine but they gave us delicious red wine which they were a bit nervous of after we said we were wine farmers. (The husband was an investment banker and mother in law was just so typical – great! Our hostess was lovely and the food was probably the best we ate in India. House was spotless. I have pics for you.)

The heritage walk through Jodhpur was great for taking photographs! We have now created a photo book (below are a selection of images).
