India is a firm favourite for bird watching holidays. From the tropical south to the mountains of the north, above all India has a species count of over 1300 birds.

Ranthambore National Park
Famous for its tigers and a stunningly pretty park, Ranthambore covers about 400 sq km of Eastern Rajasthan.
It is now a wildlife sanctuary under the protection of Project Tiger having been the former hunting ground of the Maharajah of Jaipur. Here you can experience wild jungle flecked with large lakes with exposed crumbling tombs and pavilions. You will look out for large mammals including leopard, sloth bear and deer. The best time to visit is between October and May.
There is a variety of accommodation for you to choose from. For example Khem Villas, a small wilderness camp on the edge of the park. Oberoi Vanyavilas is in a beautiful location on the edge of the tiger reserve and is India's leading luxury jungle retreat. Aman-Khas is in a brushwood forest on the edge of the park and has 10 luxury air conditioned tents and a spa.

Bandhavgargh National Park
This park claims to have the highest density of tigers in India. Furthermore it is a great spot for you to try to spot jackals, leopards and wild boar. This is a compact national park which you will reach after a two hour train journey from Katni in Madhya Pradesh.
Accommodation for exampl, includes Samode Safari Lodge which is an eco-lodge with local design. The Mahua Kothi is 20 minutes from the park's main entrance and sits on 40 acres of land. This is a restored homestead with just 12 guest suites, private courtyards, wooden shutters and a library and pool.

Satpura National Park
This park in Central India is one of the lesser known parks of India. As a result you will have a relatively exclusive safari in which to enjoy the beautiful scenery and a variety of wildlife. For example you might see leopard, bison, wild dog, tigers and sloth bears.
Accommodation available here includes Forsyth's, a small, stylish lodge with 12 cottages, designed and built by local villagers and set in 44 acres. Enjoy mountain views from the terrace and cool off in the pool. Reni Pani Jungle Lodge is named after a tribal village and has 12 cottages with private decks and outdoor showers.
Kanha National Park
This park covers over 900 square km and is one of India's largest parks. Here you will find a healthy tiger population plus wild dogs, leopard, sloth bear and swamp deer.
Accommodation includes Flame of the Forest. This is a small safari lodge with just four cottages next to a river and there are stunning views, even from your bathtub! Banjaar Tola is split into 2 camps each with nine tented suites.

One-horned Rhino
Kaziranga National Park
You will find this park in the state of Assam. It is famous for its Indian One-horned Rhino and it is said that over two thirds of the world's population of these rhinos live here. Most importantly, elephant back safaris enable you to view the wildlife from a high position. The best time to visit is between November and April.

Gees Golden Langur, Assam
Pench National Park
It is rumoured this park inspired Rudyard Kipling's 'Jungle Book'. Tigers are elusive but you can try and see Jungle Cat, langur and a mass of bird life.

Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve
This reserve sits in Central India and is dedicated to tiger protection. You can spend a few days here to maximise your chances of seeing them. In addition, you will find dense tropical forest hides guar, chital, spotted hyena and wild dog.
Panna National Park
Now one of the most famous tiger reserves in India and also home to wild cats, wolf and sloth bears.
