Rwanda is famous for it's mountain gorillas but is home to many other primates as well including several unusual monkey species and Chimpanzees. Unfortunately, these kind of safaris are not cheap and especially on a tailor made itinerary. BUT this is a small group adventure tour which offers you a stunning insight to the country of Rwanda and it's parks and wildlife at a more affordable price.
There are regular departure dates from £3,549 per person (excluding gorilla permit).

As well as giving you the chance to trek Gorillas and Chimps this tour takes in the stunning scenery of this mountainous country. Thick rainforests and towering volcanoes are surrounded by glistening lakes and a wonderful insight to the culture and people of this adventurous destination. Take a look at my Rwanda page for more information about the country and what it has to offer the traveller.
The main attraction of this holiday is the Mountain Gorillas but whilst in the Parc des Volcans (Virunga Mountains), you can also track the Golden Monkey which can be found in the lower levels of bamboo forest. In the far south of Rwanda you can try and trek to see the Chimpanzees and Colobus Monkeys of Nyungwe Forest, one of the last remaining pockets of true Rainforest in this part of Africa. Along the shores of Lake Kivu, you can explore the lakeshore villages and towns and also see some traditional East African 'plains game' such as giraffes, lions and hippo in Akagera National Park towards the Tanzania border.

The USD1500 per person gorilla permit fee contributes vital income directly towards preserving these magnificent creatures. The mountain gorilla's survival is dependent on money - money to pay for anti-poaching programs in need of personnel, weapons, ammunition and transport; money to pay for maintenance of the national park – the gorilla's natural habitat; money to make sure that those involved with protecting the gorillas are paid enough not to be tempted by bribery from would be poachers.
