Polar Bears in Spitsbergen, Norway
One of the best places for an Arctic wildlife holiday is Spitsbergen in Norway, one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Spitsbergen is an island in the Svalbard archipelago.. Travel by large ship for a cruise in the short summer season, or get closer to the bears from rigid inflatable zodiac boats. For even more of an adventure, watch the bears from kayaks. When you come ashore to see the bears, you are accompanied by armed guards and must adhere to strict rules.
The good thing about Spitsbergen is that there is plenty of ice around even in summer, making it a great place to watch Polar Bears. Usually found on the sea ice where it meets the ocean, plenty of seals can be hunted. Cruises depart from the main town of Longyearbyen on Spitsbergen and vary from 6 - 14 days in length. You will also see spectacular glaciers and could watch walruses, seabird colonies, arctic foxes or reindeer. Plus, if you are lucky, Beluga or Minke Whales.
