Each of the Caribbean Islands has its own characteristics and personality. The popular island of Barbados offers the traveller fine dining, championship golf courses, world class spas and exclusive fashion boutiques.
St Vincent is less developed and is quintessentially Caribbean, visit the markets of St George, hike the volcano Mt Soufriere or sail to the beautiful Tobago Cays while staying at the rustic Young Island Resort.
The beautiful island of Grenada produces exotic spices such as tamarind, cinnamon and nutmeg. Trek through the Mt Etang National Reserve, go river tubing or dive the depths of the ocean to the underwater world on a snorkel or dive trip.
Each of the boutique hotels offers personal service and are unique in their own way. Little Good Harbour features charming timber clad cottages, Young Island is a rustic private island less than a minute from St Vincent and Calabash Hotel serves freshly cooked breakfasts on your private terrace or balcony and offers fine dining at Rhodes Restaurant.
Little Good Harbour, Barbados is an intimate all suite hotel, tucked away in the quiet fishing village of Shermans on the north-west coast. The focal point is Fort Rupert, a historic site and home to the renowned beachfront Fish Pot Restaurant, one of the best on Barbados. A collection of one, two and three bedroom traditional chattel cottages, epitomizes the best of Caribbean architecture, nestled around a central swimming pool and tropical gardens and across a minor road from the beach. Each of the suites have a separate living room with French doors opening to your private balcony or terrace. The three bedroom vineyard suites, furnished to a high standard with fully equipped kitchens are ideal for those looking for space and the freedom of villa living. The hotel features two swimming pools, a small fitness room and has access to a small, quiet beach where there are beach gazebos and complimentary use of kayaks and snorkelling equipment. For romantics, there are two suites situated in the original historic fort - the three bedroom fort suite situated adjacent to the restaurant with private terrace, garden and direct access to the beach, and the two bedroom suite on the upper level with its own private rooftop terrace overlooking the beach and sea.
Young Island Only 200 yards from the shores of St Vincent lies pocket sized Young Island, crafted for lovers and romantics. More rustic charm than luxury, 29 attractive and comfortable cottages are hidden amongst manicured jungle and dotted across the island. Each of the cottages have a refrigerator, wall safe, ceiling fans (some with air-conditioning), king bed (twins on request), open air garden showers and private patio. Most cottages are naturally cooled by the Caribbean breeze flowing through the wooden louvered shutters.
Apart from Coconut Bar marooned off the beach, the main bar and restaurant is located centrally close to the beach. Activities include wandering along one of the nature trails, try and spot one of the harmless resident iguanas or an Agouti, a rabbit like creature from South America, or just lounge on the beach. If you’re looking for a more active holiday there’s snorkelling, sunfish sailing and windsurfers, a scuba diving centre nearby and tennis is available day or night. Evening entertainment is limited to live music twice a week. Young Island is ideal for romantics and lovers of all ages who are or want to be tuned in with nature, with many species of birds on the island and the sound of tree frogs chirping at night. This is the perfect barefoot escape.
