Alexander Armstrong's Land of the Midnight Sun
Shown on ITV in the UK in June 2020, Alexander travels 8,000 miles around the Arctic Circle visiting some of the most remote locations on the planet. During his time he travels by dog sled, snow mobile, trains and planes and sleeps in igloos, ice hotels and tents.

Arctic Adventures in Norway's Land of the Midnight Sun
The Northern Lights can be seen in Norway from mid October to the end of March from many locations. For example Tromso is the main city on the Norwegian border with Lapland and is often the 'dropping off point' for the Arctic Circle. In addition it has lively restaurants and quaint houses. From here, you can enjoy lots of Arctic adventures!!

Trollfjord, Lofoten
For instance, Dog sledding, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, moose safaris, and snow shoeing are just a few activities to be enjoyed in winter. Alternatively other locations are the famous Ice Hotel at Alta, where Joanna Lumley stayed which is in a stunning setting and is home to the Sami people. In the summer months, enjoy the long days when it never gets dark!
Alexander Armstrong stayed in Kirkenes at the 'top of the world' where there is another 'snow hotel'. Here he found out why an alien species of crustacean provides such a huge income to the population on a King Crab Safari!

Arctic Train Journeys in the Land of the Midnight Sun
Climb aboard one of the most northerly train journeys of the world, as seen with Alexander Armstrong. This rail journey takes you from Tromsø in Northern Norway, across the frozen tundra and mountain plateaus to Narvik, where you board The Arctic Train to Kiruna in Sweden. There are two daily train services between Kiruna and Narvik. The travel time is around 3 hours. (Or if you get stuck in an Arctic storm, as Alexander did, could take 24 hours!).
Another fabulous rail journey is to experience the 'Roof of Norway'. The Bergensbanen is one of the great rail journeys of the world, best enjoyed in the summer months. Europe’s highest railway line climbs up to 4000 feet across the barren, snow flecked Hardangervidda mountain plateau before descending through lush valleys to the coast.

Svalbard & Spitsbergen
In the TV series, Alexander stayed in a Trapper's cabin in the remote Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard. Longyearbyen (below), once a mining town, is the worlds most northerly settlement served by scheduled flights and has the feel of a wild west town!

Spitsbergen is a year round destination with each season offering a unique perspective of Arctic life. The short Spring and brief Autumn are replaced with endless daylight and Polar Nights. From April to August the sun never sets, offering daylight round the clock – an experience that will delight wildlife enthusiasts, nature lovers and those with a spirit of adventure.

Stay in a UFO, mirror cube or a birds nest in this quirky unusual place to stay! There are now direct flights to Lulea in Sweden for winter 2020, so you could make it a long weekend to see the Northern Lights.
