Jules used to work at safari camps in Zambia and has travelled all over Kafue National Park. Konkamoya is a unique safari camp in a stunning location and now we can offer you some really special to experience during your stay in Zambia!

Nestled on the shores of Itezhi-Tezhi Lake is Konkamoya Lodge, this unique location is not only one of the best spots to start the discovery of the Kafue National Park. It is also offers clients the chance to encounter young orphaned elephants, due to the lodges close proximity to the Kafue Release Facility.
THE ELEPHANT ORPHANAGE PROJECT
The Elephant Orphanage Project was established In 2007 in Southern Kafue National Park with critical funding from the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation with the mission to rescue, rehabilitate and release orphaned elephants back into the wild. Today the project is part of a conservation venture developed and operated by Game Rangers International and a Zambian NGO.
The Elephant Orphanage Project has today two facilities. The Elephant Nursery, 12km south of Lusaka and the Kafue Release Facility, less than a 30 minutes drive from Konkamoya Lodge. At the Facility there are currently 12 baby elephants – from 3 years to 11 years old, all cared and prepared to be released into the wild.
STAY AT KONKAMOYA
During your stay at Konkamoya Lodge, staff at the lodge can organise a visit to the orphanage, where during feed times clients can get close behind a discreet viewing wall and learn more about the everyday efforts that go into elephant conservation.
This isn't the only place to see elephants as it’s easy to meet them whilst staying at Konkamoya, possibly grazing the bush in front of the lapa or enjoying a mud bath along the lake shore.
Visiting the facilities is not only a treat for clients but a way to help the Elephant Orphanage Project as they rely on donations in order to continue their work, by also staying at Konkamoya you will contribute directly to the economy of the park, funding the Department of National Parks & Wildlife for protection and anti poaching operations.
