CAR is hot year round with the north east corner being the hottest part. There is one main rainy season in the north May to September and further south the climate is more equatorial meaning rainfall is heavier and can fall at almost any time, though is most concentrated July and October. The best time to visit CAR is December to February as this is the dry season.

Two thirds of the country lies in the Ubangi River basin which flows south to the Congo River, the other third being in the Chari River basin flowing north to Lake Chad. France colonised CAR before it became independent in 1960. For three decades following there was unrest and problems with unfair elections. Recently the country has settled down and thankfully, tourism is opening up now. This gives visitors the chance to see some of the amazing remote and unique forests, river basins and 'bais' which are home to Western Lowland Gorillas, elephants, other primates and plentiful birdlife.
Congo Wildlife Adventures (Congo Gorilla Tours) is based in Congo and uses Brazaville for the entry point to travel up to Nouabale-Ndoki National Park in the Republic of Congo and Dzanga-Ndoki National Park in the Central Africa Republic which protect some of the most beautiful, accessible rainforests in Africa. Their camps have been used by researchers (and still are) for a long time. Many adventurous travellers who have seen Mountain Gorillas in Uganda or Rwanda would like to visit their lowland cousins and this is one of the countries which now enables you to do just that! There are now a few operators running adventurous itineraries into the parks of Central African Republic and in particular to see Lowland Gorillas.

The Dzanga Sangha Forest Reserve is part of the Sangha Tri-National Park which can be accessed via Cameroon. The reserve was established in 1990 and covers about 6865 sqkm of jungle. This remote corner of CAR offers some of the best forest wildlife experiences around and there is a very good chance of seeing some of the resident wildlife such as forest elephants, bongos, forest buffaloes, numerous bird species, various monkeys and other wildlife. In particular Dzanga Sangha has the only habituated family of Lowland gorillas in Africa.
To venture here is to be part of the next big conservation success in Africa so get in touch to find out how we can tailor an African Safari to take you to the remote parks of the Central African Republic and Congo.
