Jenny and David loved their first trip to India with us last year so much (when they celebrated Jenny's 'special' birthday with no less than 7 birthday cakes!), that we planned this return trip for them, again to Delhi and Rajasthan but staying in some very different places. If you would like us to use our expert contacts to tailor a holiday to India for you, please get in touch!

I spoke to Jenny to find out how it went ....
"On arrival into Delhi we had our first surprise ... a 'VIP meet and greet'! (This meant that they were met off the plane and whisked through immigration and by passing the queues while our reps in the airport cleared their passports and bags for them - this was very much appreciated as the queues do seem particularly bad since the implementation of the new e-visas and the fact that the finger print machines didn't seem to be working!). Then off to The Imperial Hotel in Delhi we went, where we were welcomed back and settled in to relax after the flight.
The next day we were taken to Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary where many birds come to migrate every year - our guide didn't seem too sure about where he was going and was convinced that there was a better location for some birding, but we proved him wrong eventually arriving to find literally thousands of cranes! The bird guide there was really good.
The next day we flew to Jodphur ... first time we had been in a turbo-prop plane for about 20 years!! The guide there was very good and we enjoyed the tour around Mehrangarh Fort. We were very impressed about the guides ability to produce first aid treatment from round the corner from the fort after David tripped on one of the many hundreds of steps! We stayed out in the countryside at Mihir Garh near Rohet. The room and plunge pool was nice (the water attracted a lot of birds so we were happy to spend time just watching them!), the staff were lovely and there was a nice atmosphere and good food, but to be honest the place does need a bit of attention and upgrading. We visited local crafts people in the area which was fascinating.
Next was the highlight of our trip - Jawai Leopard Camp, just WOW! This place is stunning. We simply could not fault it - the rooms, the staff, the food, everything was superb. They even had air conditioning units in the tented rooms! We were lucky enough to see leopards too, but to be honest even if we didn't we would have still loved it. There was a rather hairy moment when the guide appeared to be 'climbing a rock face' with us in the jeep ... but he assured us he knew what he was doing and when we arrived at the top, there were beautiful sun downers laid out for us ... G&T Jawai Style!
Next back into rural Rajasthan and Chhatra Sagra (In the late nineteenth century, Thakur Chhatra Singh of Nimaj, a powerful noble of the desert kingdom of Marwar (Jodhpur), decided to dam a seasonal stream flowing through his estate. His vision was to create a water reservoir which would harvest the monsoon rains. The dam was completed in 1890 and changed the dry scrub into prime agricultural land. Farmers struggling for sustenance on parched lands were invited by Thakur Chhatra Singh to settle around the reservoir. The reservoir was named Chhatra Sagar in his memory). To be honest, this place was really too 'regimented' for our liking - no flexibility on meal times, the food was OK but I think we had been spoilt at Jawai!
Finally, we returned to Amanbagh which we loved so much last year! They had kept the same room for us and offered us a free upgrade to the top floor, but we kept the ground floor as we loved the courtyard and the view out to the garden and the birds. The chef there made me another birthday cake! (He tried to say it was the same one re-iced from last year but it was not as it was a different flavour!!). We celebrated Diwali here with them and it was an amazing party with fabulous food again - here is the menu!
Overall, thank you to you, Nikhil and his team so much for another fabulous holiday to India, it was really terrific - we had more time to relax and enjoy our surroundings this time round and Jawai in particular was just the best!
