Food and drink

Bespoke food and drink holidays worldwide. Cookery classes, wine tastings, Michelin star restaurants or simply shopping in local markets and enjoying fresh produce – foodie holidays for all tastes!

One of the main experiences of travel for is trying new tastes and local cuisine.  There are now ‘foodie’ holidays all over the world offering you the chance to learn to cook like a local!  Europe of course is packed full of tasty aromas such as garlic and lemon, Mediterranean herbs and gorgeous wines.  There are home stays in Italy where you can learn to bake pizza and make pasta, travel to Andalucia in Spain and learn the art of tapas or experience the laid back style of family cooking in Greece, centred around the production of olive oil.  There are plenty of cookery courses and tasting sessions that are included in set tours or we can tailor make a holiday to include a variety of foodie experiences.

North Africa and in particular Morocco is an absolute foodie must do!  Wander round the souks and pick your ingredients from the market stall, learning how to combine flavours in a distinctly different cuisine. Stay in lovely riads or spas or visit the coast for a seafood slant on the cooking, or enjoy superb food experiences in the Atlas Mountains at the luxury Kasbah TamadotThe Middle East is a must do for foodies, with world class restaurants in Dubai and Oman and fascinating markets and street cafes throughout the region. In Jordan, head to the Petra Kitchen where you can learn to make local food and then eat it – an evening of fun!

Throughout Africa there are some interesting foodie places – the ‘spice island’ of Zanzibar in Tanzania will show you the tropical plantations of pineapples, spices and strange fruits, the tropical forests of Uganda are full of about 150 varieties of banana used in all forms of cooking and drinking!  Coffee and tea is prevalent in Africa with Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Malawi producing some of the worlds finest brews. Mozambique is home to amazing seafood with a spicy Portuguese influence, hotels and lodges along the coast will provide you with a feast for all the senses!  South Africa is home to some of the best wines in the world and for me a foodie treat would be a couple of weeks around Cape Town and the winelands of the Western Cape – here you will find, as well as world class vineyards, farms selling cheeses, ice creams and lots of fabulous local produce.  Batholomeus Klip is a luxury working farm with gourmet food and cookery classes. Cape Town itself has world class restaurants and plentiful harbourside cafes to enjoy the fruits de la mer ….. and into the ocean itself – across the waters towards Asia, is the Mascerene Islands.  A foodie holiday here will reveal an amazing variety of spices, fruits and seafood.  A cultural melting pot featuring food from China, India, Africa and France, head to Mauritius for an Indian Ocean food extravaganza!  If you enjoyed Masterchef on BBC TV and want to go to the home of this year’s champion, Ping Coombes, ask me to sort you out with a food holiday to her homeland of Malaysia!

Across the ocean to Mexico, you can learn all about making moles, tortilla and salsas and sip classic Margheritas and head into the ‘deep south’ of the United States for Creole food and festivals. Around America you will find some of the best steak houses in the world, combined with fabulous wines of California. Into Latin America, you will find foodie fiestas and places where you can eat with the locals, deep into the Andes Mountains or on the beaches of Brazil, there is a magical world of food and wine to be experienced in South America.  Wines of Argentina and Chile are particularly enjoyable and you can stay on the wine farms if you want to divulge in some serious tasting!  Buenos Aires is a vibrant city with a big food culture and fabulous steaks.  Into the Caribbean is a world of fruity punches, rum and sugar cane!  Seafood, spice and festivals are plentiful here.  Ask me about hotels that are particularly ‘foodie’ themed, there are some fabulous local restaurants and many of the harbours of the islands are the places to head for street cafes and beach bars selling the best of the days catch. For chocoholics head to the luxurious Hotel Chocolat on St Lucia!

India and South East Asia are a complete feast for the senses – travel through India learning about the regional variations in food and spices and maybe visit Thailand or Vietnam to learn about the techniques of local food here, make sure you experience one of the floating markets! Throughout south east Asia there are lot of opportunities to cook with the locals, experience street foods and immerse yourself in tropical and spicy smells and tastes.  Japan is completely unique (in many ways!) and the food here with it’s sushi and fabulous restaurants is a must for the serious culture vulture!

Wine tours of course are popular in vineyards throughout the world and many wine estates have luxury accommodation on site too.  Try South America, California, South Africa or Australia for long haul, or the wineries nearer home in France, Spain and Italy, to name just a few.

The variety of food and drink to be enjoyed around the world is endless.  Whether you want a family holiday to teach your children more about local foods, want to wander the street markets and spicy souks of the exotic parts of our planet or simply want a luxury hotel with a world class restaurant to celebrate a special event or honeymoon, get in touch and we can tailor make you the perfect foodie holiday!

We had a fabulous holiday to Corfu thank you! We opted for Kalami Bay in Corfu (home of The Durrells) Things we enjoyed most included; The little bay next to Kalami – Kouloura – had a great little beach and top taverna (Taverna Kouloura); Driving off the beaten track and exploring the little mountain villages, like Sinardes. High points provided spectacular views; Reading two Durrell books overlooking The White House! Thank you for making it happen we will come back to Travel With Jules again.

Everything was truly amazing. I've never had a holiday like it and it felt great to be honouring my parent's legacy and their last wishes which was "Go somewhere special together - hang the expense! I loved the TWJ travel wallet and luggage tags - we never felt like we were 'just a customer" or that something couldn't be done or that they were trying to hard sell me at any time. I certainly enjoyed a very special holiday indeed.
Phil & Karen Vatter – Italian Lakes (June-July 2017)

Loved Kefalonia and Assos as you had said we would. Good job, you! Managed to do 400 km in the little Fiat Panda so must have had fun in the sun. Cavos Inn was fine, the view from room 7 was probably better than the front sea view ones as we got to see the village as well. Good time had by both, only spoiled by coming back! We loved the holiday - thanks again!!

Thank you for your organisation of our holiday to Rome and Sorrento. All ran very smoothly ! Locations of both hotels was good. Too many highlights to mention here but we saw such amazing sites in Rome and then loved visiting Pompeii via the local train . We were happy we took your advice and only stayed in Rome for four nights, more would have wiped us out!

Is there anything that could be done better? Can't think of one thing… All went seamlessly – no hitches just a great short break at a brilliant location. The choice of hotel was spot on (quiet in its environment) and our hosts were fab to boot… Choice of hotel, the advice given in terms of when to travel – it was VERY early but that meant more time in Venice! And Venice itself. Glorious. Simply Glorious.
Steve & Annya – Venice (March 2017)

Thank you for your organising our last minute city break to Palermo we thoroughly enjoyed the holiday. The junior suite at Hotel Quintocanto was worth the extra and you couldn't ask for a better location. We understand that the reason for the cancellation for our return flight was indeed strike action in Italy. We commend yourselves and the operator for how you handled the change to plan.
Carol & Chris – Sicily (Feb 2017)

We got home last night after a fab week away at Cosi's Inn, thank you! It was wonderful. We loved the island, people, food, local wine etc etc - magical ! Everything went to plan as far as travel, transfers, accommodation, car hire etc. We would definitely ask you to help us with our travel plans again as well as recommending you to friends and family. Overall we loved Croatia, thank you for arranging it all, we enjoyed all the different locations, everyone was very friendly and all the connections, transfers and ferries went well. Our hotel the Hilton Imperial in Dubrovnik was perfect and all the locations were very different, we loved Korcula best of all.

We had a brilliant weekend, staying at the Angelo by Vienna House Hotel in Katowice - plenty of walking, sightseeing & a wee bit of drinking! We would definitely recommend you and give you a 5 star service rating! Everything was brilliant, especially having information about exactly which bus to take from the airport to the Hotel and at which stop we needed to get off – very helpful indeed.

As always you did everything to such a high standard (We wouldn't expect anything else from you though!!) Where in the world can you visit a zen garden in the morning and meet with the head resident priest for a chat, see a very large cat being walked on a collar and lead through the bamboo groves and see the craziness of a robot cabaret........... that would be Japan!!!! A massive thank you to Jules and Mags for yet another fabulously arranged holiday. If you're thinking of going to Japan then book with Travel with Jules, the organisation is excellent, the information you receive is comprehensive and very detailed, you can't go wrong.
Sarah & Jeremy – Japan (April 2016)

Excellent driving infrastructure and incredibly good value for money. In hindsight we should have had a bigger car! We did enjoy our stay in South Africa and can highly recommend many of the hotels and guest houses, staggering scenery, lovely helpful people, incredibly sophisticated cooking (we didn’t have any meals that would be bettered in London!).
Peter, Jean & Hetty – South Africa (April 2016)

Thanks for organising our tailor made fly drive to South Africa we had a great time! the safari at Msenge Bush Lodge in Pumba Game Reserve was fabulous a great way end the holiday – saw all the big 5 – had a great cottage probably the best in the lodge. Oh I should mention the gallons of wine and champagne we consumed (especially the Cape Town and Stellenbosch area) taking many purchases with us for use along the route!!
Collard party – South Africa (Jan 2016)

As Tenerife disappeared into the haze we watched a pod of dolphins dipping in and out of the wake of the ferry, before spinning away to the open sea. Winding paths, potted ferns, bright greens, wild plants encroaching from and spilling over the cliff edges, lizards, butterflies, bees, pomegranates and date palms.....
Imogen and Den – La Gomera (Spain) (Dec 15)

Thank you for booking our Christmas Market River Cruise holiday to Germany, we had a really lovely time. The staff on the boat (MPS Rotterdam) and our cabin (Promenade deck) was lovely and the food was out of this world! The best markets were in Bonn and Rudesheim.

Thank you so much for organising our amazing holiday and recommending South Luangwa in Zamibia. We have had a great time. Lodges, camps, hotels and all the transfers and pick ups were brilliant throughout Zambia, Victoria Falls and Cape Town. We loved every minute of the holiday, including the lions grumbling outside our tent at night in Kakuli Camp! I can thoroughly recommend Blackheath Lodge in Sea Point, Cape Town. The Jazz brunch at Winchester Mansions was very relaxed and fun.
Christine & Ian Bland – Zambia & Cape Town (Nov 13)
November 24, 2013

As usual the whole organisation, choice of hotel, resort and weather was impeccable. And you arranged for Vesuvius not to blow it's top whilst we were there. So that's another item ticked off the list: I am amazed I've finally seen Pompeii and particularly Herculaneum. We don’t do holidays that are so relaxing that we really, REALLY, DON’T WANT TO GO HOME! AND IT WAS ALL YOUR FAULT......
Ian & Cathy Furbank – Italy, Sorrento & surrounds (October 13)

Our holiday was quite simply superb. Al Vecchio was fantastic and the cooking lessons were terrific. Thank you so much for organising such a memorable trip for us. Everything went incredibly smoothly and most importantly it was just what we wanted and needed!

September 19, 2013

We were so pleased with everything Julie did for us, we started with four days in Paris with a day trip to Monet's Garden (a must) and of course the Moulin Rouge, then from Paris to Monaco, Nice, St. Tropez , Dijon, Tours and returned to Paris for the last 3 days, we travelled (from Australia) four weeks in all everything went very smoothly, I am sure due to the fact that Julie put in so much effort to make it so. The thing that I really liked was if you wanted to contact Julie on any matter you were not sure about she was always there with a reply asap, she become like a friend - nothing was too much bother for her.
Mike & Shaz – France (April 2013)
May 22, 2013

Within three hours of me posting a Tweet for holiday help, I received a phone call from Jules. By the next morning my week’s holiday in Crete was researched, sorted and agreed, including a good deal on car hire. We stayed in some great apartments in the heart of the resort and enjoyed a really relaxing week. I can’t recommend Jules highly enough (or Twitter!) and will certainly consider using her services again.
Graham Richards – Crete (July 2011)

One of the things I have come to love about you, Jules, is that you listen and take on board what makes me tick, and then tailor the holiday to fit me, not just try to convince me to fit a holiday in a brochure!
