Tailor made Zambia Safaris
Mayukuyuku, run by Kafue Camps and Safaris, is a fabulous little eco-bush camp in Northern Kafue National Park in Zambia. When I visited there myself a few years ago I was delighted with the feel of the camp, the efforts to protect the local environment and just the overall ambience and experience of a safari here is perfect.

Kafue National Park is huge - about the size of Wales! It's the largest park in Zambia but not the most visited (which is South Luangwa). Kafue is easy to reach from Lusaka, in fact Mayukuyuku is not far off the main road from the city (around a 4 hour drive), so is one of the few camps that has easy road access and is open all year round. Other camps in Kafue are very seasonal due to rains cutting them off. Kafue suffered terrible poaching for many years but the wildlife here really is prolific and especially around Mayukuyuku, big cats and wild dogs are regularly seen.
I would suggest combining Mayukuyuku with a camp in the far north either around Lufupa area or Busanga Plains if you have the time, but spend at least three nights (preferably more!) at this gorgeous little camp to give you time to do game drives to different areas and enjoy lazing at the camp just watching the river go by. Oh, and the food, wine and hosting at Mayukuyuku are fantastic too - you won't want to leave!
Pippa Turner, Kafue Camps Director explains the ethical principles behind her company which includes both the employment of people from the surrounding areas of The Kafue National Park as well caring for the environment and wildlife in the Park. "We are a majority Zambian owned company, so revenue is ploughed back into the country. Our staff and directors have many years' experience in the Kafue and in the wildlife safari business. We aim to empower our employees to reach their full potential and train them to the best International standards, whilst retaining uniquely Zambian feel to your stay".
You are not likely to come across other tourists in the game drive areas around Mayukuyuku so your safaris will maintain a personal feel here. In the area are Elephant, Lion, Buffalo and Leopard, plus Cheetah, Wild Dog and over 450 species of birds. Kafue is a must for keen birders with the Pels Fishing Owl and African Finfoot always on the wanted list.
