St Vincent is the largest by a long way of the 32 islands and cays which stretch south to Grenada. The main islands, from north to south are Young Island, Bequia, Mustique, Canouan, Mayreau and the Tobago Cays, Union Island, Palm Island and Petit St Vincent. The capital is Kingstown on St Vincent island backed by a pretty ridge of hills with a market square in the centre of the town – visit on colourful market days, Friday and Saturday. Hikers, nature and bird lovers head for Buccament Valley on St Vincent where you can stay at the luxury Buccament Bay Resort. Mustique is one of the most exclusive destinations on the planet – just 2.4km x 5km it is a private island surrounded by white sand and coral reefs with luxury villas and a famous blues festival. Horse riding and nature trails can also be found here. One of the most beautiful and character filled places to stay on Mustique is the Cotton House, a collection of individual residences dotted around an old sugar plantation. There is a gorgeous dining room and bar, converted from the old windmill and warehouse. For over 30 years the famous beachfront bar on stilts nearby has played host to the rich and famous, visit for breakfast, lunch, dinner or late night dancing!
