Puerto Rico is in the middle of The Caribbean chain – 50 miles east of Dominican Republic and the smallest of the Greater Antilles. There is a fabulous mix of Spanish, American and Taino Indian culture both traditional and modern on this island and there is a huge array of attractions and activities for all types of holidays.
Direct flights operate November to April and there are many other options year round via the United States, plus via Madrid in Spain. The heaviest rain falls in September. The capital and airport is at San Juan where there are a range of fantastic restaurants and luxury hotels. There is a buzzy nightlife in both the city and the historic part of Old San Juan where latino rhythms and salsa dancing rule. Celebrities hailing from Puerto Rico include Jennifer Lopez and Ricky Martin! In November there is a classical and folk music festival and there are various other festivals through the year.
Away from the capital there is a world of Spanish colonial towns, quiet resorts on the seaside, beautiful hidden beaches and lush rainforests. There is unusual geography and natural history here. The smaller off shore islands of Culebra, Mona and Vieques make interesting excursions.
