After over 50 years of communist rule, Cuba is now firmly back on the tourist map and one of the most welcoming and friendly places for travellers wanting something different from their Caribbean holiday. The culture of Cuba is unlike any other with some wonderful contrasts. It has the laid back atmosphere and gorgeous beaches found all around the Caribbean but has the rhythm and warmth of Latin America. The capital of Havana has a ‘faded colonial’ feel to it with vibrant markets and cobbled streets – music sounding round every corner!

Cuba has a bit of everything including over 300 naturally sandy beaches and a year round enjoyable climate (although it can be very wet at certain times, it is warm rain!). There are mountains and underwater coral reefs, world heritage sites and history.  The cities with their colonial buildings, parks and Cuban rhythms are well worth exploring.

If you want a natural history holiday, this is a great birding destination with 160 species, 28 being endemic to Cuba.  Try and find the tiniest bird in the world, the Bee Hummingbird. San Felipe Keys reserve in the west of Cuba has 9km of virgin beaches, home to nesting turtles and other endemic species. There are several UNESCO biosphere reserves and parks with great conservation projects.

Cuba is of course a great wedding and honeymoon destination too, with more culture and history than some of the other more traditionally ‘sand and palm trees’ type islands!

Suggested experiences in Cuba include:

  • Visit a cigar factory to see first hand how the world’s most famous cigars are made.
  • Explore the beautiful interior of the island.
  • Enjoy some of the 500 dive sites, caves and shipwrecks.
  • Wander round the old squares and colonial buildings in the old part of historic Havana.
  • Visit the museums for a glimpse into the island’s revolutionary past.
  • Take a ride in a 1950s car

Seafood of course features highly in the cuisine of Cuba and it’s rum is famous around the world.  Try a Mojito – a wonderful combination of rum, mint, sugar and soda. Hotel restaurants are generally all of a high standard but take time to visit the character filled local restaurants and bars.  In Old Havana try a meal in Floridita and visit one of Hemingway’s favourite bars La Bodeguita del Medio.

Carnival time in Cuba is March when the streets of Havana are full of traditional displays of music, dancing and costumes.

You can fly to Cuba direct from Gatwick three times a week with Virgin and the flying time is around 9hrs 40 mins.  A Tourist Card is required which is usually booked through your tour operator when we book your holiday.

We knew nothing about Cuba when we came to your office and asked you to come up with an itinerary that covered all the bases. We feel we had a very good taste of what Cuba has to offer - the good, the bad and the ugly, all part of the experience. Beautiful country, lovely people - we had excellent guides, who provided lots of background info as well as showing us the must see sights. Our three homestays were also an interesting mix. The luxury resort at Caya Santa Maria was fantastic.

Thank you for booking our French Caribbean self guided walking holiday to Guadeloupe and Martinique Travel With Jules adapted the original itinerary by Headwater (the operator) to suit our travel needs from Edinburgh and resolved a ridiculously unnecessary booking on a very early transfer flight at no extra cost to us when Headwater had raised a charge. It […]

All I can say is AWESOME!!!!!! The staff and other visitors at The Body Holiday were so friendly, I didn't feel uncomfortable as a solo traveller (after the first fifteen minutes of watching others obviously!) at all. The hosted communal evening meals were lively, friendly, interesting discussions with perfect strangers, several of whom I subsequently spent meal times with. The service was fantastic, the staff were friendly and I will definitely be looking to travel there again. I would also like to say thank you for putting me on to such a wonderful spot and I would love it if more places were so open to solo travellers and accommodating to different needs. All in all I would score it 10 out of 10!

Our holiday to Dominican Republic was a huge success, thank you! We loved the beautifully conceived "travel packs" that added a "wow" factor! The holiday was also a cloak-and-dagger operation for me to propose to Sophie. The hotel excelled itself on providing 10 restaurants with a la carte offerings - food was superb. Thank you for all your help in making this special holiday happen!

Everything was spot on. The second hotel was excellent - well recommended. Shirley heights on Sunday and the excellence 360 island trip are brilliant.

Cuba – what an amazing country ... the noise and bustle of Havanna, the cars, the history, the people, a place stopped in time, interesting scenery, history and culture and the most beautiful beaches!

Julie gave us an excellent service for our holiday to Barbados. She listened to our requirements, gave informed advice and provided more than we had asked for! We will use her again and will recommend her to family and friends.

Our Caribbean holiday to Antigua was fantastic!! The Inn at English Harbour was really beautiful, quiet and tranquil. Did some excellent snorkelling and a couple of tours as well. Absolutely perfect, certainly one of the best holidays we've had. Thank you so much for organising it, we'll be back for more!

It was lovely to have Jules to sort everything out for us, and it certainly meant that we could relax and get on with organising the other parts of our wedding safe in the knowledge that our honeymoon was being taken care of for us. Everything went as smoothly as it could be from start to finish, we had zero problems throughout.

One of the things I have come to love about you, Jules, is that you listen and take on board what makes me tick, and then tailor the holiday to fit me, not just try to convince me to fit a holiday in a brochure!
