Tailor made wildlife holidays and gorilla tours to Gabon from Africa Specialists

Gabon is a French speaking country in West Africa, bordering Cameroon to the north and Equatorial Guinea in the North West with the Republic of Congo to the south and east.  The Atlantic Ocean follows Gabon’s coastline on the Gulf of Guinea.  The capital city is Libreville to the north of the coast and is a major port too.

Although far from mainstream in terms of an African Safari, Gabon offers the experienced Africa addict another dimension to their travels, with a huge range of tropical wildlife to be found here.

Along with neighbouring Republic of Congo, Gabon is a great place to see Western Lowland Gorillas, but you need to make sure your timing is right!  Other mammals found in the forests and swamps here include the Chimpanzee, Mandrill and other primates, Forest Buffalo, Congo Clawless Otter, Hippo, Forest Elephants, African Golden Cat, Red River Hog and along the coast, Humpback Whale and Manatee.  For birders, there are over 670 recorded species.

There are a few rustic lodges and camps in Gabon around the 13 or so national parks. In Loango National Park you can stay at Loango Lodge with gorgeous views over the river with plentiful wildlife.  There are other camps around the camp and even on the beach! Langoue Bai Camp in Ivindo National Park is a basic research camp and has basic accommodation but is located in a remote wilderness area – accessed by a three hour rainforest walk. There are limited specialist natural history operators running safaris here.

There are only a handful of safari operators working in Gabon and the transport system means you can expect long, arduous journeys to reach your wildlife destinations here.  But the rewards once you get there make the adventure worth it!  We work with specialist companies in this region of Africa and will tailor make your travel requirements to suit.

I booked my trip in the UK through 'Travel With Jules' to avoid having to send large sums of money to a foreign bank account. Using a UK agent obviously adds to the cost, but I considered it well worth it for financial security, and certainty that there would actually be someone waiting for me when I stepped off the plane. I visited Lobeke National Park and Sangha Lodge in Dzanga Sanga National Park. Amazing sightings of forest wildlife including elephants, lowland Gorillas, sitatunga, Mangabeys, forest hogs and stunning bird life.

To lift a business contact and develop the relationship into friendship takes a special talent and creates an important bond with the customer. It has been a pleasure for me to deal with someone so proficient in her expertise as Julie.

One of the things I have come to love about you, Jules, is that you listen and take on board what makes me tick, and then tailor the holiday to fit me, not just try to convince me to fit a holiday in a brochure!
